At Bringing Families Together, our mission is built on caring for children — not just in the big moments, but in the small, unexpected ones that matter just as much.
This year, our office has been busier than ever. On most workdays, at least one young person has been here with us — sometimes staying for the day, sometimes overnight, and sometimes for much longer — while waiting for a foster home to be found. It’s not ideal for them; these kids need loving homes. And it means our staff step far beyond their usual roles: making lunches, helping with schoolwork, coordinating drop-offs and pick-ups, and providing supervision and comfort around the clock.
And yet, no matter how demanding the workload, our team continues to show up with patience, compassion, and creativity.
This week brought one of those moments we’ll never forget. A 9-year-old girl who has been spending her days in our office for the past two weeks decided she wanted to throw a birthday party for her stuffed cat — and she didn’t just ask for one, she planned and hosted it herself.
She created a full party agenda: cat videos and songs, colorful party hats, a round of “cat charades,” and even storytelling time with feline-inspired tales. Some of our team members even brought gifts — for the “cat” and for her — to make the day even more special.

Our role? We were her guests, cheering her on, enjoying the fun, and making sure she had the space and support to bring her vision to life. The smiles and laughter filled the room, and for that afternoon, the office transformed into a place of pure joy and imagination.
It was a reminder of why we do what we do. 💜
Our team members aren’t just caseworkers or coordinators; they are mentors, cheerleaders, problem-solvers, and sometimes party guests. They create moments of belonging and comfort for children in the midst of uncertainty.
And yes — this was, without a doubt, the best cat birthday party we’ve ever attended. 🐾🎉
