At Bringing Families Together, our TLSS (Transitional Living Scattered Site) program is all about helping youth build the skills, confidence and support networks they need for independence—and that includes caring for both their practical needs and their emotional well-being.
On October 26, our TLSS team hosted another inspiring monthly training filled with learning, reflection and connection.
💼 Building Strong Foundations
The group began by updating their portfolios of important information, reviewing budgets and bills, and talking about saving money. TLSS Coordinator Angel Crawford encouraged youth to think about ways to consistently add to their BFT accounts and continue practicing financial responsibility. These monthly check-ins help ensure each youth feels confident managing their finances and planning for the future.
💜 Loving the Girl in the Mirror
One of the highlights of this month’s training was a visit from Adrianna Harrielle of Toodies Girls Academy, Inc. Adrianna led a powerful session on self-love, boundaries, healthy relationships, and the importance of therapy and accountability.
She also guided the girls through a creative and heartfelt activity called “Loving the Girl in the Mirror.” Each participant decorated their own mirror and chose a daily affirmation to remind them of their worth and inner strength.
✨ (You can see some of their colorful mirror creations below!)
The activity was such a hit that the girls immediately asked Adrianna to come back every month for more conversations like this. Next month, she’ll return to lead an inspiring session on journaling and self-expression.
👕 Life Skills for the Guys
While the girls were working on self-reflection, TLSS Specialist Kyle Dunn took the guys out shopping for essentials—a chance to build real-world budgeting and decision-making skills. Angel shared that she’s already working to bring in a male guest speaker for an upcoming training, ensuring everyone feels equally supported and engaged.
🌶️ Comfort Food & Connection
No TLSS training is complete without good food and good company! The group wrapped up the day by enjoying chili—served any way they liked it—with hot dogs, Fritos, sour cream, cheese and crackers.
🍲 (Photos from our “build-your-own chili bar” captured the fun and teamwork as everyone shared a meal to close out the day.)
Each month, our TLSS trainings create opportunities for growth, learning and connection. From managing money to learning self-love, every experience helps our youth move one step closer to independence with confidence and care.
💜 Thank you to Angel, Kyle, Adrianna and everyone who helped make this month’s training a success!
