Community Services Coordinator | Parenting+Plus Team
This month, we’re proud to celebrate someone whose work has shaped Bringing Families Together for nearly two decades — Karen Johnson, our Community Services Coordinator and Internship Coordinator.
Karen joined BFT in September 2007, and for 18 years, she has been a cornerstone of our mission to strengthen families and support lasting reunification. She leads with both heart and expertise, combining her background in education and communication (M.A., M.Ed., and B.A.) with years of hands-on experience serving children and families in our community.
As a Red Cross Certified Trainer in First Aid, CPR, and AED (Adult, Child & Infant), Karen ensures our staff are prepared for any situation — and her trainings have become known not just for their thoroughness, but for her warmth, humor and encouragement.
But perhaps Karen’s most impactful legacy so far is the creation of the Parenting+Plus Program, which launched this year to help parents develop new skills and strengthen family relationships through the Nurturing Families curriculum.
In her own words, Karen shared earlier this year:
“Parenting+Plus is an exciting new chapter at BFT! Using the evidence-based, Nurturing Families curriculum, we are helping families towards better outcomes through support, encouragement, relationship building and new parenting skills.”
Since its launch, Parenting+Plus has helped parents find hope, growth and connection — with multiple successful class series already completed and more to come.
Reflecting on her time at BFT, Karen says:
“BFT has been my second home for many years. I treasure the relationships and the support I share with the executive team and my colleagues. Our work provides the opportunity to see families grow, change for the better, and best of all, remain together safely.”
Karen’s leadership, compassion and vision continue to inspire everyone around her. From supporting her colleagues to empowering parents, she’s the kind of leader who helps everyone feel seen, supported, and capable of more than they thought possible.
